all that noise

29 11 2008

I am sitting here watching a movie with my friend blake. he was talking about camera angles and the only reason the shot looked cool was because of the angles. It wouldn’t look as cool if we were just watching it head on.

It made me think a little…

What do we as Christians look like from outside our bubble?

What angles look the best?

What if we changed our perspective?

What is your angle?

it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas

27 11 2008

my, my, my, it’s funny how life can change so much in just a year. So, I thought I would share a few…

  • Last year at this time I was getting ready to start the Christmas season at the jewelry store worried about money.
  • This year I am living in a strange city with a different agenda.
  • Last year I would drive down the road and look at all the houses with Christmas Lights.
  • This year I see people sleeping and freezing on the side of the road.
  • Last year I was thinking about diamonds, rubies & emeralds.
  • This year I am thinking about how i can buy food, but some people can’t.
  • Last year I was stuck in all the excess.
  • This year I am giving my extra time.

I am not saying all this to toot my own horn! I am saying all this because it took something like serving someone else just one time to change my attitude. God has opened up a world that I never paid attention to before this year. God has changed me. (I just wish it hadn’t taken 29 years) It’s not that these things didn’t exist last year, it’s just now I see them! I am not stuck in my bubble of comfort anymore. But the funny thing is I have never been so comfortable.

I know He can do the same to you… all you have to do is SERVE! Just one time. I promise you will feel completely different when you are finished. This is what God designed us to do.

P.S. I was looking through my blog and noticed that it was a year ago today that we decided to name our church Canvas. Look how far God has brought us. Look at the changes we have seen in our lives, not to mention other people’s live here in Savannah.

Shout Out Loud

25 11 2008

Thanksgiving is in 2 days. We have a lot to be thankful for…

You’d think being the “action director” for Canvas Church I would say something about serving people and being more thankful for what you have.

Well, you’re right! While you are enjoying eating your turkey and dressing, creamed corn, green bean casserole, sweet potato souffle and pecan pie. ( i will be too) Just think about the people that don’t have any of that.

Yeah… you’ve probably heard that before. But I have an idea…

Make a new tradition! while you are sitting around with your family this Thursday, take a few moments and pray for other people. Then… do me a favor. Next week, get online and look up serving opportunities in your community. Find a place that needs your help, not just your money but your time. It might not be feeding the homeless or getting dirty rebuilding a house. It might just be hanging out with an elderly person, tutoring a child, picking up garbage or giving someone a hug that needs it.

All i’m saying is -Get Involved- somewhere!

If you are a Christian, don’t just go to church – be the church! Even if it means being a little uncomfortable.

If you are not a Christian, then find somewhere you feel is making a difference.

James 2: 19-20 (NLT)

19 You say you have faith, for you believe that there is one God.[f] Good for you! Even the demons believe this, and they tremble in terror. 20 How foolish! Can’t you see that faith without good deeds is useless?

p.s.. if you’re mad at me for calling you out… I Don’t Care!

Happy thanksgiving!

vision of you

22 11 2008

Today we helped the Old Savannah City Mission with their annual Thanksgiving Feast in Forsyth Park. We arrived there around 9:45, registered and then got to work! The Canvasians had the duty of giving out the drinks! It was great until we ran out of Mountain Dew!!! It was a very humbling day. I am still in awe of Doug & Shelly’s kids… Ryan & Ashleigh. They got right in the middle of everything and were the only ones that I noticed didn’t take a break! They worked until the head guy told us not to anymore! I am very proud of you guys, you are an inspiration to me and others that were there today…Thanks for being the church!

I just pray that while we are sitting in our warm homes tonight that these people that came for food today are warm. It is not our place to judge why they are in need but our responsibility as Christ Followers to fill it!

In The Light

14 11 2008

What Would Jesus Do?

I remember when those bracelets first came out. I of course had one in every color. I remember wearing them every day and being proud that I was a Christian. But that’s all I did. I wore a bracelet or a t-shirt with a corny rip off on it to tell people that I was a Christian…In fact, I probably wore them because all my friends had them too.

I wish I could have been more serious back then about my walk with God. The way I am now. I mean… I was serious I thought… I hung out with all Christians people and friends and went to church every time the doors were open.

Don’t just wear a bracelet or a t-shirt or put a chrome fish on the back of your car because we are all part of a “club”! If you are going to announce to others that you are a Christ follower then back it up with your actions. This is not optional!

James 2:16-17

16) If one of you says to him, “Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it? 17) In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.

WWJD?    HE WOULD ACT!

Thanksgiving is fast approaching and there are many serving opportunities in the city… Please see The Action page on our website for more info!

Gandhi said… “Be the change you wish to see in the world” He didn’t have to wear a shirt…
